General Description

Two existing operating rooms, support rooms and surrounding spaces required modification into an intraoperative OR MRI and diagnostic suites. This project included revisions to the HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire and communication systems in order to accommodate the installation of a 1.5T-MR magnet mounted on a rail system at the ceiling moving through three shielded rooms. The new space consists of control, diagnostic, operating room, induction and equipment rooms with a docking bay, and is capable of diagnostic, surgical or intraoperative procedures. All MEPF work was completed with active surgical suites in the adjacent spaces.

Key Features
  • Revised ductwork, medical gas and other mechanical piping to accommodate the installation of the three-room MRI suite
  • Installation of an AC unit in the MRI equipment room
  • Installation of a new compressed air system to support the shielded doors
  • Installation of a dry-pipe pre-action system to cover the entire space
  • Lighting and power serving the existing spaces were completely removed and ne work was installed to accommodate the new wall arrangement, boom locations, shielding and space requirements
  • Installation of MRI-compatible surgical-grade lighting
  • Power, lighting and data systems were installed with control schemes to allow for quick changes between surgery and imaging in the surgical suite
