General Description

Construction of a new conference/data center to serve multiple functions. A new data center was needed because the existing data center was being displaced by the development of new roads west of Parsons site.  Conference center space had long been in short supply on the Nationwide Children’s campus and this building fulfilled those requirements. The building consisted of four floors plus a basement.

Key Features
  • The basement, first, and second floors are conference center spaces. The conference center will include a 300-person auditorium, multiple medical training/simulation labs, multiple 24-48-person conference rooms, two (2) large pre-function event rooms, and two (2) serving kitchens to support the pre-function event rooms.
  • The upper two floors of the building housed the new data center, which was expected to include approximately 8,000 square feet of actual data hall (white space).
  • The data center electrical system includes two (2) 750 kVA UPS systems with 5 minutes of lithium-ion battery backup. As data center loads increase, the system is designed for an additional 750 kVA UPS.
  • Some utilities were extended from the new West Central Energy Plant, and some were from utility companies or stand-alone systems dedicated to the data center. There were two (2) sources of primary utility power and significant standby power redundancy.
  • The data center relocation required extensive revisions to the site communications infrastructure. New duct banks for communications fiber were installed to allow a seamless transition when the new data center went online and the existing data center was decommissioned.
