General Description

The project consisted of the replacement of existing Air Handling Units 12 & 13 at Grady Memorial Hospital.  The existing units are in the basement mechanical room. Thanks to increasing equipment in the areas served, both replacement units have 20% more capacity than the original units. AHU-12 is an approximately 15,500 CFM constant volume unit and AHU-13 is a 20,000 CFM variable volume unit. The ductwork in the mechanical room needed to be revised to accommodate the unit replacement and downtime minimized to avoid facility disruption.

Key Features
  • The existing air-handling units supply the maintenance, nursery, corridor, and interior core areas of the hospital
  • Replace starter buckets in the motor control center with circuit breakers to feed the remote VFD’s.
  • New AHU’s utilized fan array with one redundant fan and has multiple VFD’s
  • Replace ducted return fans with return fans that utilized VFD’s
  • Provided new DDC to controllers
  • Replaced AHU’s over a weekend and had it up and operating on Monday
  • Provided UV lighting at cooling coil
